2017-18 Mission & Ministry Grant
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has reported that almost 80% of young women before, during, and after pregnancy are experiencing high rates of depression and anxiety. Our congregation, First Christian Church of Salida, CO is partnering with CDPHE to provide spiritual support and educational workshops on managing anxiety. According to the Census Bureau, in December of 2016 the total population of Chaffee County was 18,309. The female population is 51.9% (8,711). Approximately 34% of the female population are mothers in the age range of 15-25 years old. Statistics also reports that 32% of females who give birth are unwed and live in Chaffee County. Living Your Life: Coping with Depression and Anxiety has been working with some of the female population, and our idea is to get funds to move this project to a new level of effectiveness and impact.
In April 2018 we will start the Convocation Meeting with facilitators and volunteers which includes promoting and marketing in the community. The following month, we will present our first Seminar on Depression and Anxiety, along with pastoral care for those who participated. In addition, we will have a workshop on How to Manage Depression, ending with a Seminar on Living Life To The Fullest and assessments in June and July.
