Health and Social Services Leadership Development Grants

About Our Ministry

Supporting Health and Social Service Leaders in Leadership Development

The National Benevolent Association recognizes that leadership in today’s cultural climate can be a difficult job, and that creating space for education and personal growth is key to sustainability both for leaders and the organization. NBA’s leadership development grants are designed to enhance and promote the health, well-being, and skill development of organizational leaders.

Grant Opportunities

Executives and Leaders of Disciples-affiliated Health and Social Service organizations are eligible to apply for Leadership Development Grants up to $1000 per year. These may include offerings through ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or other conferences, seminars, trainings, and the like. Grants may be used for registration, tuition, course materials, travel-related expenses associated with the course or workshop, or coaching fees for individualized leadership development support.

Grant Eligibility Details

Available for executives and leaders of NBA Partner Disciples-affiliated health and social service organizations in the US and Canada seeking funding for leadership development.  Those currently participating in the NBA Social Entrepreneur Cohort or Incubate Partner programs are not eligible during their program participation tenure.

The NBA defines “Disciples-affiliated health and social service organization” as:

  • The organization has determined that a percentage of board members must be from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ideally, that percentage is incorporated into the entity’s bylaws.
  • The organization is founded in partnership with Disciples congregations and/or founded by the NBA
  • The Executive Director/CEO is a member of the CC(DOC) and continues to claim the importance of that relationship to the ministry and its partners and supporters.

Note: The NBA does not expect every ministry/organization to meet all three requirements, yet there should be a mutual understanding about a ministry/organization being Disciples-affiliated. Most certainly some of these requirements must be met to claim affiliation.

NBA defines “NBA Partner” as those Disciples-affiliated health and social service organizations that are:

If you are a Disciples-affiliated health and social service organization that is not currently an NBA Partner, please contact the HSS partner program coordinator, Jerell Decaille, to schedule a conversation.
