Restoring Dignity through Effort and Education
First Christian Church Beckley partners with community organizations to help address the needs of hunger in the community. They work to increase the accessibility of food resources to all who are in need through a pantry distribution program, offerings of onsite meals known as Carpenter’s Corner, and promoting social benefit programs such as SNAP.
They seek to expand their community partnerships with nutritional services such as WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) and nonprofits such as the Goodwill Industries, and other agencies that provide educational opportunities for senior adults, and parents of school-age children that come to the church for food assistance. Their expanded outreach will include more detailed contact with individuals and sharing instructional information orally, as many of their clients have no or limited reading skills. They also seek to provide on-site training opportunities that will assist people with their food choices including preparation, purchasing, and storage. They will solicit referrals and partnership from the Carpenter’s Corner and the Salvation Army, particularly through their hot meal feeding ministries, and connecting with individuals in different programs. Above all, they will not be judging individuals for life choices, but rather trying to provide the means for them to make new choices that will help improve the overall quality of their lives.
