SoulCare: A Guided Breathing Exercise
In June 2023, a group of diverse mental health professionals were called together to serve on a two-year Mental Health Equity Cohort (MHEC) led by Director of Mental Health and Wellness, Joselyn Spence, MDiv, LPC, ATR.
Throughout December, MHEC members will share a variety of resources and stories to help you navigate through the wintertime, holidays, and beyond. Today’s resource is a guided breathing exercise from Joselyn Spence.
The business of the holiday season can often cause overwhelm. Amid buying gifts for others, decorating, attending advent services, and wrapping up final projects in our professional lives, it can be easy to forget to pause and breathe.
This special 2023 Holiday SoulCare was created to invite stillness, and silence for you to pause and honor whatever emotions you may be feeling and for your body to have an intentional moment of slowness and rest. This pause allows us to accept our limits and reminds us that we are not alone. You are not alone.
We invite you to revisit this breathing exercise throughout the holiday season, winter months, and any other time you may need it. May you remember that in this season you are held, heard, and seen by the Holy Spirit. Just breathe and be and know that you are a gift.
