Sharing the Table at NBA Pop-Up Cafes
The National Benevolent Association shared tables with more than 300 Disciples across our three Pop-Up Cafés, new to General Assembly this year. The NBA Pop-Up Cafés were inspired by the “pay-as-you-can” model, adapted from Tulsa’s Table, a food justice project of StoneSoup Community Venture, Inc., part of the NBA Incubate Initiative. The ministry of Tulsa’s Table is that all people have the right to good, quality food. The pay-as-you-can model is designed to allow anyone to enjoy a tasty and nutritious meal, regardless of ability to pay. At our NBA Pop-Up Cafés, guests were invited to purchase a meal for only $5 and could also “pay it forward” to purchase additional meals for others.
The Pop-Up Cafés provided a casual and engaging setting for great food and fellowship. On Sunday and Monday, the NBA Connect and Incubate Cafés highlighted the amazing health and social services work happening with our partners across the Disciples Care Exchange, Affinity Group Ministries, and Incubate Initiative. On Tuesday night after worship, the NBA XPLOR Café featured live music, a festive photo booth, and the opportunity to learn about NBA XPLOR, a 10-month service residency for young adults developing hearts for care. Thanks to all who joined us in hosting, attending, and supporting the NBA Pop-Up Cafés!
